Bishop’s Stortford MP Josh Dean is holding a special benefits advice surgery for pensioners in the town on Friday (October 4).

The session, in partnership with Citizens Advice East Herts, is to ensure that his elderly constituents are claiming all the Government allowances to which they are entitled.

Blaming the Conservatives for a £22 billion black hole in the country’s finances, Labour has ended the automatic right for all pensioners to receive up to £300 as a winter fuel payment to help pay their heating bills. Now only those who receive benefits such as Pension Credit and Universal Credit will be eligible.

Mr Dean, who won the Hertford and Stortford seat for Labour in July, said: “I’m holding benefit advice surgeries for pensioners in Hertford and Stortford in partnership with Citizens Advice East Herts.

“We’ll be offering support to make sure that pensioners are able to claim everything for which they’re eligible.”

To book an appointment, pensioners should call Citizens Advice East Herts on 01920 459944 and leave a message, asking to book into the surgery, or use the email advice form on Citizens Advice East Herts’ website at citizensadviceeastherts.org.uk/advice.
