Zac Brunner scores two tries as Bishop’s Stortford Colts beat Westcliff in first round of national cup

Zac Brunner scored two tries as Bishop’s Stortford Colts made it through to the second round of the national cup with a hard-fought 31-16 win over Westcliff.

During a tough first half, Harry Taylor opened the scoring with a try after a great interception and it was converted by Zac Saunders.

Westcliff immediately replied with a try of their own, but further touchdowns by Brunner and Joe Norris - one converted by Saunders - gave Stortford a 19-8 half-time lead.

A further try from Brunner, which was successfully converted by Saunders, was followed by a try from Sammy Shrubsal as Stortford pulled clear after the interval.

Joint head coach Steve Hearn, whose side now visit Rochford on Sunday (October 6), said: “The lads played well with some great rugby. Sam’s try was a result of some lovely multi-phase play.

“We deserved the win and it was a really good start to the season.”
