Felsted under-15 girls beat Bancroft’s School to be crowned Essex county cricket champions
Felsted’s under-15 girls got the better of Bancroft’s School - and the wind - to be crowned Essex county champions.
The final, which was delayed from the summer term, took place in extremely blustery conditions on Felsted’s main pitch, The Front.
The hosts produced an excellent bowling and fielding display to restrict their opponents to 71 runs.
And the lower middle order steaded Felsted’s reply after early wickets fell as they secured a narrow victory.
“It wasn’t typical cricket weather, but a brilliant day for the Felsted girls nonetheless and one to be remembered for a long time to come,” said the school’s head of girls’ cricket Lissy McLeod, who represented Birmingham Phoenix in this year’s The Hundred and plays county cricket for Berkshire.
“So many more girls are interested in cricket now and participation at Felsted is growing rapidly, which is great news for the future of the women’s game.”
