Pat Brazzier launches book The Story of the Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District League: Volume One 1922-1989 at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club
A former local football player launched his much-awaited book documenting the history of the Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District League on Sunday (November 17).
Dozens of former players joined author Pat Brazzier for the launch at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club where he signed copies of The Story of the Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District League: Volume One 1922-1989.
Among the clubs represented were Hatfield Heath, Takeley, Albury, Sheering, Heath Rovers and Green Tye.
Brazzier has received orders for the book from Spain and Holland and has already sent copies out across the country.
“I’d just like to thank everyone who came along,” he said. “It ended up being a very special day.
“It took me hundreds of hours of research to complete the book, but seeing so many old team-mates, opponents and friends here made it all worthwhile.
“This book only records the history of the league up to 1989 - the next stage and the second book will be published some time soon.”
In the book’s foreword, Hatfield Heath’s Andy Lines pays tribute to Brazzier, who played for several teams, notably Heath Rovers, SJ, Sheering and Farnham.
“The whole community around the Stortford area owes Pat a huge debt of gratitude,” said Lines.
“Thanks to this book, the exploits of clubs from the entire north-west Essex and east Herts border areas are recorded forever.”
Brazzier has a limited number of books, priced £20, still available. Email PatBrazzier@yahoo.com to order your copy.
